Saturna Capital’s Elizabeth Alm Quoted in Bloomberg Terminal’s ESG Bond Weekly Column
Bellingham, WA, September 9, 2024 – Elizabeth Alm, CFA®, senior investment analyst and portfolio manager at Saturna Capital, was recently featured in Bloomberg Terminal’s ESG Bond Weekly column discussing the need to deeply analyze a company’s inner workings before investing as corporate regulations may begin to weaken in Donald Trump’s second term.
With demand for corporate bonds likely to rise and disclosure requirements for corporations likely to roll back, Alm emphasizes the need to conduct thorough due diligence — particularly when it comes to sustainability-focused investing. She also noted that these regulation changes could place more responsibility on investors to ensure they are receiving accurate information.
“The onus is on us to do the deep dive with every green bond,” she told Bloomberg in an interview. “Anytime you have maybe less information, maybe changing regulations, it’s just really important to take deep dives.”
The concept of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria has faced recent headwinds, with bond issuance under this banner expected to continue its slowdown into 2025.
“It definitely seems like the label itself is in limbo currently in the US,” Alm concludes.
