Saturna’s Dan Kim Talks Stocks on Chuck Jaffe’s “Live the Money Life” Podcast
Bellingham, WA, February 5, 2025 – Dan Kim, director of research and portfolio manager at Saturna Capital, stopped by the “Live the Money Life” podcast to discuss finding disruptive stocks and give his quick thoughts on companies the audience had questions about during the Market Call section of the show.
In the segment, Kim discussed his long-term investment strategy, emphasizing the importance of identifying high-quality businesses with strong balance sheets, accelerating cash flows, and recession-resilient business models. He also highlighted the significance of thorough fundamental analysis and patience in capitalizing on the growth potential of disruptive companies.
“What happens over the shorter and medium term is that you can find these moments of misalignment between market perception and reality,” Kim said. “The vast majority of these shorter-term divergences end up being normalized out over the medium to long terms.” Kim goes on to explain that in some specific cases, these misalignments and perception gaps can compound over the longer term and lead to a much larger upside gap than what is more broadly perceived.
Kim gives the example of semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom as a stock he believes exemplifies this methodology. Given just the growth potential for one aspect of their business, the compound annual growth rate would be 23%, versus the consensus estimate of 16%. “That’s a substantial divergence that’s going to compound over years,” Kim said, “And that’s not even assuming the rest of Broadcom’s business is growing.”
After broadening this discussion further, Kim also shared insights into specific sectors and stocks request via audience questions he finds promising, focusing on innovation and adaptability in a rapidly evolving market.
