ImpactAlpha Publishes an Article Written by Saturna’s Levi Zurbrugg

News Article

Bellingham, WA, May 10, 2024 – Levi Zurbrugg, portfolio manager and senior investment analyst at Saturna Capital, wrote an article that was published on the sustainability-focused investment website, ImpactAlpha. The article was published on May 8, 2024.

In “ESG will be key to supplying ‘green’ metals needed for the energy transition,” Mr. Zurbrugg noted that reaching net-zero carbon emissions will mean transitioning away from a fossil-fueled economy toward a low carbon economy. Rather than fossil fuels, the economy will need to be “energized through metals and materials.” Materials including nickel, lithium, copper, and cobalt “are central to the low-carbon transition” for technologies such as wind turbines and electric vehicles.

Mr. Zurbrugg’s article also discussed the factors and potential risks involved in the transition to a low carbon economy, including supply chains and alternative materials sourcing, geopolitical risks, environmental risks, and social risks.

Levi Stewart Zurbrugg, MBA, CFA®, CPA®, is a senior investment analyst and portfolio manager of Sextant Core Fund. He is also the deputy portfolio manager of Amana Developing World Fund, Sextant Global High Income Fund, and Sextant Short-Term Bond Fund. He joined Saturna Capital in June 2019.
