Health Savings Accounts at Saturna recognized for investment options
February 12, 2021 – Financial news and research organization Investor’s Business Daily has recognized Saturna Capital as one of the 12 Best Health Savings Account Providers for 2021. This is the third consecutive year that IBD has named Saturna to their list.
IBD compiled its Best HSAs List from dozens of candidates based on investment quality, investment options, fees, customer ratings, and feedback from industry experts. IBD singled out Saturna Capital’s HSA as one of the best in the category of investment options. According to IBD, Saturna Capital’s HSA offers “a huge selection of investments and the maximum freedom to manage your own investments.”
“We are honored to be recognized for the third year in a row as one of Investor’s Business Daily’s best HSA providers,” said Jane Carten, president and CEO of Saturna Capital. “HSAs are one of the best account types for investing with their triple tax advantages, and they are a great way to prepare for health care expenses later in life. HSA data shows that the average balance of on an investment HSA is nearly five times that of a non-investment HSA.”
What is an HSA?
An HSA allows an investor to make pretax contributions to an account meant to be used for qualified medical expenses. The balance in the account can be invested in order to cover future costs, including costs incurred in retirement. There are three tax advantages to contributing to an HSA; balances can grow tax-free, withdrawals for qualifying medical expenses are tax-free, and contributions lower adjusted gross income, which in turn lowers tax on income.
Saturna HSA investors can choose from Saturna’s affiliated stock and bond mutual funds, including sustainable and halal funds, or broaden their choices further via a self-directed brokerage account. [EDITOR NOTE: As of January 2023, Saturna no longer offers a brokerage option in HSAs.] Saturna HSA account holders may also set up an automated investment plan for their HSA contributions, similar to what they may already be doing with their IRA or 401(k).
