Bellingham, Wash. (October 9, 2019) - Jane Carten, MBA, president of Saturna Capital Corporation, has been appointed to the US Securities and Exchange Commission asset management advisory panel. The newly formed 21-member panel will advise the SEC on issues specific to asset management industry regulation.
According to the SEC, “The committee was formed to provide the Commission with diverse perspectives on asset management and related advice and recommendations.” Appointees will serve a two-year term beginning in November 2019. Members of the advisory committee include asset management executives as well as representatives from higher education and national and state-level financial regulatory agencies.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve on the SEC’s asset management advisory panel,” said Carten. “I applaud the SEC for its initiative to include in their policymaking process the diverse perspectives within the asset management industry. In seeking input from all corners of our industry, the SEC can create a modern regulatory framework that is better suited to the needs of today’s business models and investor preferences. Jane Carten joined Saturna Capital in June 1997 and has over 20 years of experience in the asset management industry. She is portfolio manager of the Saturna Sustainable Equity Fund. In addition to overseeing Saturna’s daily operations, she directs Saturna’s internal and external technology and marketing activities, Saturna’s continuing education program, and its philanthropic efforts. She is active in the Bellingham Bay Rotary and is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization. She is a founder and former director of the nonprofit OpenAccess Internet Services and a Bellingham Sister Cities member and contributor.
