Saturna Capital President Named Industry Rising Star
Bellingham, WA, April 29, 2010 — Jane Carten, Director and President of Saturna Capital Corporation, was selected by Institutional Investor News as one of thirteen "Rising Stars of Mutual Funds" for 2010. Carten was honored at the 17th Annual Mutual Fund Industry Awards ceremony held April 15, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York.
The annual award distinguishes the foremost, up-and-coming mutual fund industry professionals. Award recipients are nominated by their colleagues, and finalists are selected by the editorial staff of II News.
"I am honored and pleased to receive this recognition of achievement," said Carten. "And I will continue to ensure Saturna’s sustained focus on long-term performance, investor education, and shareowner advocacy, which are the driving factors of our success."
"Jane is a talented leader who has earned the respect of her peers. Her hands-on experience and intimate knowledge of the investment management business makes her well-prepared for the unknown challenges that lie ahead," said Monem Salam, Director and Vice President of Islamic Investing at Saturna, and recipient of the "Rising Star" award in 2008.
Since her appointment to the role of President in June 2009, Carten has overseen a number of the firm’s key initiatives: the launch of the Amana Developing World Fund (AMDWX) in September 2009; the expansion of Saturna’s operations into Asia later this year; and significant growth of corporate philanthropy in both Saturna’s immediate community and through the firm’s foray into donor advised fund products and services.
Carten joined Saturna in 1997 and previously held the positions of Chief In-Forming Officer and Executive Vice President before her promotion to president in June 2009. She holds a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA degree in Computer Science and Business from Western Washington University.
