Bellingham, WA (May 19, 2010) — The Mount Baker Theatre is thrilled to announce that Saturna Capital will be sponsoring the upcoming 2010-2011 Season. Saturna's history of support for the Mount Baker Theatre dates back to the early 1990s and includes significant contributions to the theater's renovation capital campaign and various concert sponsorships. Saturna sponsored the Broadway Series during both the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons.
"We view Saturna's season sponsorship as a significant leadership contribution to the theater's development," said Brad Burdick, Executive Director of the Mount Baker Theatre. "Ticket sales cover only about half of our expenses, with the other half coming primarily from grants and private donations. Saturna's commitment at the season level has motivated others to step up and sponsor shows."
The season, which includes an exciting mix of musical performances, dance and Broadway revues begins with Benise: The Spanish Guitar on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 and ends on Thursday, May 12, 2011 with Parsons Dance and East Village Opera's presentation of "Remember Me."
"The Mount Baker Theatre is not only a historical landmark but a cultural anchor in the heart of downtown Bellingham," said Jane Carten, Director and President of Saturna. "In our relatively small community, we are fortunate to have access to the high caliber of events and performances that the Mount Baker Theatre continues to attract and support." Carten joined the theater's board of directors last year.
"We augmented our sponsorship by offering Director's Club-level season memberships to our employees who wanted them," she added. "Through these memberships we encourage participation in theater events which ultimately delivers benefits to the entire community. It really seems to be a win-win-win for Saturna Capital, Mount Baker Theatre, and Whatcom County."
