Saturna Capital Expands Staff; Adds Seven New Positions

Bellingham, WA (January 20, 2010) — As it continues to expand, Saturna Capital announces the hiring of seven new employees in newly created positions. Saturna's staff now totals 52, with newly remodeled headquarters in downtown Bellingham, WA.

Saturna has added John Scott and Ben Bortner as investment analysts to its research team. They will be responsible for market sector research and fundamental company analysis to support the management of over $2.5 billion in mutual fund and individual investment account assets. Scott, who joined in late December, was previously employed as a financial advisor of the Portfolio Management Group for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Orange County, CA and prior to that was an investment banking analyst with Hyundai Securities in Seoul, South Korea. He is a graduate of the University of Washington with a BS in business administration and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. Bortner joined Saturna as a part-time investment analyst while finishing his bachelor's degree in accounting and finance at Western Washington University. He will transition to full-time after his projected graduation in the spring of 2010.

Kalen Hanna joined Saturna in August as an Investor Services Representative and Fund Accountant. Prior to that, he held the position of general manager for Fastenal Co. and is a 2006 graduate of Western Washington University with a degree in international business.

Renee Dimond filled the newly created position of Systems Assistant in Saturna's information technology department, which would allow the IT department to devote greater resources to network development and system security. As the primary "Help Desk" representative, Dimond supports the day-to-day IT needs of Saturna staff. She previously worked for DIS Corporation and Qualnetics Corp. and received her bachelor's degree in computer science from Western Washington University in 2004.

Other new employees include Jennifer Ferlin, who joined Saturna in December as an Operations Clerk and Receptionist, and Rose Abbaspour, who joined in August as a part-time Accounting Clerk to assist with corporate accounting and accounts payable. Jennifer is a 2007 graduate of Western Washington University with a BA in English and holds a certificate in editing and publishing from the University of Washington.

Another new hire, Ellen Lillegard, Administrative Coordinator, is based in the Reno, NV office of Saturna Trust Company, providing research and clerical support to Saturna's team of mutual fund wholesalers. Ms. Lillegard is a graduate of Lake Forest College Lake Forest, IL with a degree in history and international relations.
