Nick Kaiser MBA, CFA®

Nicholas Kaiser, Chairman, was born in Bellingham in 1946. Mr. Kaiser graduated from Yale College, with a degree in economics and obtained his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1968, with dual majors in International Economics and Finance. Mr. Kaiser purchased control of Unified Management Corporation (Indianapolis) in 1976, and built it into a mid-sized investment management and brokerage firm. After selling Unified to a major insurance company, he returned to Bellingham and founded Saturna Capital in 1989.

Mr. Kaiser and his children control Saturna Capital through its voting stock. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he is Saturna's chief investment officer. He serves Saturna's mutual funds as trustee, president, and equity portfolio manager.

Mr. Kaiser's industry activities include service with the Investment Company Institute (past Governor), CFA Institute (past chapter president), Financial Planning Association (past chapter president), and No-Load Mutual Fund Association (past national president). He currently serves on the volunteer boards of St. Paul's Academy, Mt. Baker Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Mt. Baker Foundation, and Shawnigan Lake School. He supports a range of non-profit activities, such as the Kaiser Professorship in International Business at Western Washington University. A commercial pilot (retired), ocean sailor, and avid skier, he reads and travels extensively.

Mr. Kaiser has been named to Morningstar's Ultimate Stockpicker's list three years running (2010, 2011, and 2012); he has twice been nominated for Morningstar's Domestic Stock Portfolio Manager of the Year (2006 & 2008) and twice been named to Barron's Top 100 Portfolio Managers (2001 & 2002). Mr. Kaiser was Northwest Business Monthly's Business Person of the Year in 2006, and received Whatcom Business Alliance's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

Phelps McIlvaine
Vice President & Director
Bond Portfolio Manager

Phelps McIlvaine, Vice President, joined Saturna Capital in 1993. He serves Saturna as Portfolio Manager and a Research Analyst for Idaho Tax-Exempt Fund, Sextant Short-Term Bond Fund and Sextant Bond Income Fund. He also acts as Director for Saturna's wholly-owned brokerage subsidiary, Saturna Brokerage Services. Mr. McIlvaine was born in Illinois in 1953, and has a BA in economics (University of Denver, 1975 Phi Beta Kappa).

Mr. McIlvaine entered the investment business in 1976 and traded US bond and derivative markets from 1977 to 1986 for commercial banks in Boston and Chicago. From 1987 to 1993 he managed fixed income derivative hedge funds in Chicago and London. He serves on the Endowment Committees of the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association and the Bellingham Interfaith Coalition.

Bryce Fegley CFA®, CIPM®

Sextant Global High Income Fund Portfolio Manager

Bryce Fegley, CFA, CIPM, Tactician, Investment Analyst & Sextant Global High Income Fund Portfolio Manager, joined Saturna Capital in 2001 and worked in brokerage/trading and later as an investment analyst. Beginning in 2010, he spent two years as President of our Malaysian subsidiary, Saturna Sdn Bhd, directing its research and fund management operations. In 2012 he returned to Saturna Capital headquarters. Prior to joining Saturna, Mr. Fegley worked in brokerage operations in Seattle from 1997-2000. Originally from upstate New York, he studied at the University of Colorado at Boulder earning his BA in English Literature. Mr. Fegley earned a Certificate in Computational Finance and Risk Management from the University of Washington in 2015. His volunteer activities include a board role with the Whatcom Family YMCA. His hobbies include reading and playing piano, traveling with his family, bicycling, and cooking.

Peter Nielsen, Senior Investment Analyst & Sextant Core Fund Portfolio Manager, joined Saturna Capital in June 2007. Born in 1964 in British Columbia, he graduated from Trinity Western University with a degree in Business Administration and earned an MBA from Simon Fraser University. A Chartered Financial Analyst, Mr. Nielsen worked for BC Investment Management Corporation and Aquilini Investments before coming to Bellingham. Mr. Nielsen is a member of the Western Washington University College of Business and Economics Advisory Board. He enjoys bicycling, tennis, hiking and his family.

Amana Developing World and Sextant Growth Funds Portfolio Manager

Scott Klimo, Chief Investment Officer, joined Saturna Capital in May 2012. He received his BA in Asian Studies from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY and also attended the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Mandarin Training Center in Taipei, Taiwan. Scott has over 20 years experience in the financial industry with the first several years of his career spent living and working in a variety of Asian countries and the past 10 years working as a senior analyst, research director and portfolio manager covering global equities. Mr. Klimo is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder and a private pilot. He is a supporter of various environmental organizations and served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition. Outside of work Mr. Klimo is an avid cyclist and scuba diver; pursuits he shares with his wife and two teenage children.

Tyler Howard, Investment Analyst, joined Saturna Capital in June 2012. He earned his MBA from Western Washington University and his BS in Business Administration from California State University of Monterey Bay. Prior to joining Saturna, he worked for five years as a Research Associate and Consultant at a small-cap, value-oriented wealth manager. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing golf, sports, and spending time with his wife and two high-maintenance dogs.

Amana Participation and Saturna Sustainable Bond Funds Portfolio Manager

Patrick T. Drum, Research Analyst, and Saturna Sustainable Bond Fund and Amana Participation Fund Portfolio Manager joined Saturna Capital in October 2014. He is an adjunct professor of finance for the Sustainable MBA Program at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) at Pinchot. Mr. Drum holds a BA in economics from Western Washington University and an MBA from Seattle University Albers School of Business. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder and a Certified Financial Planner®.

Prior to joining Saturna Capital, Mr. Drum led environmental, social, and governance (ESG) research and was director of fixed income portfolio management since 2007 at The Arbor Group, a member of UBS Institutional Consulting Services specializing in investment management for global conservation and national wildlife park endowments as well as sustainable-social screened private client portfolios.

Mr. Drum's past experience also includes business valuation at Moss Adams and portfolio management at Washington Mutual Bank. He lives in Bellingham and is a proud father of two. He enjoys sea kayaking, hiking, and being part of the Pacific Northwest community.

Craig Churman, Vice President, Product Development, joined Saturna in August 2011. He is a graduate of West Virginia University, with a BS in Business Administration, and has an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Churman earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® Designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies in 2013. Prior to Saturna, he spent ten years in sales and product development at PNC Global Investment Services, transitioning to Bank of New York Mellon when it acquired PNC GIS in July 2010. With over thirty years of experience in financial services, Mr. Churman has held positions in client services, product development, mergers and acquisitions, and finance, at firms such as Federated Investors, BISYS, and Invesmart. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Churman is the father of two, an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, and an active supporter of mission work, particularly Youth With A Mission, an international volunteer organization.

Sean Spurgin, Institutional Operations Manager, joined Saturna Capital in March of 2011. He earned a BA in Finance, with a minor in Economics, from Western Washington University. He formerly worked as a reimbursement analyst in the insurance industry. Raised in Yakima, WA, his hobbies include playing golf, running, hiking, and fishing. Brett Bonner
Regional Manager

Brett Bonner, Regional Manager, joined Saturna Capital in May, 2008. Brett is responsible for marketing Saturna's mutual funds and investment services to third-party advisors and consultants, meeting personally at investment offices and conferences nationwide, as well as developing Saturna's relationships with industry peers. Brett was born in California in 1964 and joined Saturna following a lengthy and successful news/talk radio career, in which he won three Edward R. Murrow awards and five consecutive Associated Press awards for best newscast. Brett is the married father of two and is active in local politics and charities. He enjoys woodworking and fishing.

Tyson Romanick
Regional Sales

Tyson Romanick, Regional Sales, joined Saturna Capital in April 2005. Raised in Snohomish WA, he earned the Boy Scout rank of Eagle at the age of 16. Mr. Romanick graduated from Western Washington University in 2005 with a BA in Business Administration. He also holds a Commercial Pilot license. He enjoys fishing, flying, camping, and the guitar.

Owaiz M. Dadabhoy, Director of Islamic Investing & Islamic Investment Group Manager, joined Saturna Capital in August of 2008. Raised in Southern California, he earned a BA in Business Administration from California State University at Fullerton. Mr. Dadabhoy spent over 15 years at Wells Fargo and was most recently a District Manager in Long Beach. Prior to that, he was Senior Sales Director for Wells Fargo’s Wealth Management group in Los Angeles where he managed six Sales Directors and led a team of over 200 licensed bankers. Mr. Dadabhoy is active with charitable and community activities, co-founding the UPLIFT Charitable Corporation in 2006. He is married with two children and enjoys spending time with his family in various outdoor activities.

Amjad M. Quadri, Regional Manager, joined the Chicago office of Saturna Capital in June 2015. He brings experience in Islamic banking, including business and product development. Previous employers include Guidance Financial (Chicago) and University Bank (Ann Arbor MI). He has a BS in Information Decision Sciences from the University of Chicago.

Chris Fankhauser
Chief Operations Officer & Director

Chris Fankhauser, Chief Operations Officer, is a 1995 graduate in Political Science from Western Washington University. His adaptability and problem solving skills were developed in travel industry jobs before joining Saturna Capital in December 1996. Starting as a part-time system operator, Mr. Fankhauser is now responsible for the daily operation of investor and brokerage services as well as fund accounting. His favorite leisure activities are running, skiing, cooking and reading.

Melissa VanderYacht, Accounting, joined Saturna Capital upon graduation in Business and Finance from Western Washington University in April 1996. A Lynden native and college varsity sports team captain, Melissa is currently a full-time mother and works for Saturna part-time. She also continues to volunteer in the community.

Matt Ward
Distribution and Client/Broker Relations

Matt Ward, Distribution and Client/Broker Relations, joined Saturna in April of 2002. Matt graduated from Western Washington University where he studied Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He is a happily married father of two, and is an avid golfer.

Through Saturna's wide network of broker dealers and intermediaries, Matt handles the distribution of the Amana and Sextant Mutual Funds. He manages various wholesale relationships and is Saturna's main point of contact for dealer selling agreements. Matt also provides ongoing support to various investment advisors, in addition to Saturna's sales team, wholesale operations, and transfer agency.

Dan McCorkle, Dealer Services, joined Saturna Capital in June 2004. Mr. McCorkle graduated from Eastern Washington University in June 2002 with degrees in finance and economics. Dan moved to Bellingham after working for an insurance firm in Boston. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, boating and sporting events.

While in school, Michael also worked part-time at the Whatcom Family YMCA and at Haggen Fairhaven Market, and continued to work at the YMCA after graduating until joining Saturna Capital. President

Monem Salam is the President and Executive Director of Saturna Sdn. Bhd., Saturna Capital's wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary, and a Director at Saturna Capital.  He received his degrees from the University of Texas: BA (Austin) and MBA (Dallas).

He worked as the Chief Investment Officer for ITG & Associates (Dallas) until 1999; then as a representative with Morgan Stanley (suburban Dallas) until joining Saturna Capital in June 2003.  He served as the Director of Islamic investing and Deputy Portfolio Manager to the Amana Mutual Funds Trust until moving to Kuala Lumpur in 2012 to oversee Saturna Sdn. Bhd.

Monem is Adjunct Professor at IE Business School and speaks at Islamic finance/investment conferences worldwide and he is co-author of A Muslim's Guide to Investing and Personal Finance. Monem has authored chapters on Islamic Investing in both Contemporary Islamic Finance and Islamic Capital Markets and he contributes articles to leading Islamic financial magazines. As a mark of recognition of his achievements in Islamic economy, Monem was ranked among 500 of the Islamic world's most prominent and influential leaders by ISLAMICA 500 in 2015.

Ku Muhammad Nasir Ku Mohamed

Ku Muhammad Nasir Ku Mohamed, Compliance Officer, joined Saturna Sdn Bhd in January 2011. He has more than 12 years experience in the capital markets industry and previously held dual trading licenses as a Dealers' Representative and Futures Brokers' Representative. Prior to joining Saturna, he served asset management firms and futures broker houses in a compliance capacity. He also has stock market and financial futures trading experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Accounting from the University of Hull, United Kingdom. His hobbies include photography, reading, travel and music.

Phut Chit Wan (Nicole), Administrator and Personal Assistant, joined the Malaysian subsidiary in 2006. She graduated with a Diploma in Private Secretarialship. She has more than 15 years’ experience in junior and executive positions, substantially as an administrator and management support staff in subsidiaries of two international companies. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, movies, travelling, and playing netball.

She holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia and started her career in an insurance company in 2007 before working with a unit trust company in charge of fund operations and accounts reporting. Prior to joining the team, she was an accounts executive in a retail and advertisement company. Aimi enjoys traveling with family and friends in her spare time.

Jane Chia, Head of Operations, joined Saturna Sdn Bhd in April 2013. She is a holder of an Advance Diploma from The Association of International Accountants (AIA). Jane Chia has 23 years experience with 17 years in the Capital Markets Industry. Prior to joining Saturna, she worked as Senior Accounts Executive in the Trading and Services industry for 6 years and subsequently joined PhillipCapital Group of Malaysia, serving various positions in Administration, Human Resources, Head of Operations (asset management, unit trust and derivatives business), and Head of Finance. She enjoys spending time with her family, trekking, travelling, and contributes to charitable societies like Lions Club and Tzu Chi Foundation.

Padharmendren Annadorai, Equity Analyst, joined Saturna in January 2015. He graduated from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman with an Actuarial Science degree, and is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder. He has been conducting equity research in the buy-side for more than 5 years and has experience covering Australian equities. In his spare item, he enjoys going to the gym.

Heddy Humaizi Bin Hussain
Director of Institutional Sales and Marketing

Heddy Humaizi Bin Hussain, Director of Institutional Sales and Marketing, joined Saturna Sdn Bhd in June 2015. He has over 17 years of experience in Equity Research, providing stock recommendations and analytical commentaries to clients and portfolio managers. Previously with RHB Asset Management Sdn Bhd, he led a team of 5 analysts with special and detailed emphasis on stock market valuations using fundamentals and technical analysis strategy. In 2014, the investment team won more than 10 awards under the Edge-Lipper Fund. Prior to joining the Asset Management Division, Heddy was attached to the RHB Branch Broking Division and was involved in expanding the Bank's share trading business to more than 30 branches.

Previously, Heddy worked for an independent research house, Nikkei Pacific Capital Markets, and Innosabah Securities under the guidance of the late Razani Dato' Paduka Radzi. He also worked for Maybank-Kim Eng (formerly known as Mayban Securities). Heddy is also the guest writer for the Star Bizweek and was the guest speaker for Bursa Malaysia during the SGX seminar in Singapore. He was also the permanent guest analyst for the previous NTV7 Business Brief segment aired every Sunday evening.

He received his tertiary education with MARA University of Technology, pursuing the Investment Analysis advance course from 1993-1997. Heddy is also a qualified Investment Advisory License holder under the Securities Commission Capital Markets Services.

During his spare time, Heddy enjoys cooking. His long-term goal is to set-up a western food joint so that everyone can get a taste of his excellent cooking!

Muhammad Syafiq Bin Abdul Hamid

Muhammad Syafiq Bin Abdul Hamid, Accounts/Operations Executive, joined Saturna Sdn Bhd in June 2015. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Accountancy from MARA University of Technology and started his career in an audit firm in charge of accounting, auditing, and taxation. Prior to joining Saturna, he was an accounts executive in an education company. Syafiq is avid for the latest information technology updates. He enjoys playing volleyball and travelling in his spare time.

Zahid Siddique

Zahid Siddique, Senior Equity Analyst, joined Saturna Sdn Bhd in September 2015. He has over ten years of equity research, portfolio management, and business development experience. Prior to Saturna, Mr. Siddique was an associate portfolio manager and the head of industrials equity research at Gabelli Asset Management in New York. More recently, he was based in Dubai, where he focused on business development activities in the Middle East. Mr. Siddique holds a BA in Mathematics from Hamilton College and a BS and MBA from Columbia University. Outside of work, Mr. Siddique loves to travel with his wife and two children.

Jane Carten MBA

Jane Carten, President and Director, joined Saturna Capital in June 1997. Ms. Carten graduated from Western Washington University with an MBA and undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Business. As President, Jane oversees Saturna's daily operations and directs Saturna's internal and external information systems, managing the technology and marketing activities. She also directs Saturna’s continuing education program and the philanthropic efforts of the firm. Ms. Carten is active in the Bellingham Bay Rotary and is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization; she is a former member of the Whatcom Museum Children's Advisory Board. She is a founder and former director of the nonprofit OpenAccess Internet Services and is a Bellingham Sister Cities member and contributor. She enjoys her family, snow-boarding, and wildlife, as well as international travel and fine and theatre arts.

Jim Gibson CPA®
Chief Financial Officer & Director

Jim Gibson, Chief Financial Officer, is a Certified Public Accountant and joined Saturna in April 2007. Mr. Gibson graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude, 1981). He was born in California in 1959, and moved to Washington in 1995. Mr. Gibson began his career in public accounting at Arthur Andersen, then spent several years in a regional public accounting firm. He has over 15 years experience as Controller, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at different multi-national companies, both public and privately owned, based in Western Washington. He serves on the Board of Directors of Whatcom Tesseract Running Club, a non-profit organization that provides youth in our community with coaching and opportunities to compete in races. Mr. Gibson also sits on the Executive Committee of his church's Pastoral Council, and is an Officer in Squalicum High School's Track & Field and Cross Country Parent Athletic and Activities Committee. His favorite activities include spending time with his wife and three children, boating, fishing and attending his children's various and numerous athletic events.

Human Resources Manager

Ethel Bartolome, Human Resources Manager, joined Saturna Capital in January 2000. Mrs. Bartolome handles corporate affairs, human resources and administers the regulatory and registration activities for Saturna and its mutual funds. Originally from Southern California, she graduated from San Diego State University in 1997 with a BS in Foods and Nutrition. Ethel enjoys spending time with her children and church functions.

Noni Schultheiss
Corporate Accountant

Noni Schultheiss, Corporate Accountant, joined Saturna in January 2000. Ms. Schultheiss was born and educated in Edmonton, Alberta and has lived in Canada, Denmark, and the United States, settling in the Pacific Northwest in 1996. Through the years, her varied career took her to network television, oil and gas exploration, international manufacturing and provided opportunities to assist non-profit entities in a volunteer capacity. She also spent many years studying ballet and classical piano. Her interest in theatre, music and dance allowed her to choreograph musical theatre productions. She continues to enjoy ballet, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Kevin Dalrymple CPA®
Senior Accountant

Kevin Dalrymple, Senior Accountant, joined Saturna in May 2010. Mr. Dalrymple graduated with honors from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. A native of California, Mr. Dalrymple lived in the Czech Republic for 10 years before moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2003. Mr. Dalrymple’s career includes seven years of experience editing investment research for European banks. He enjoys studying foreign languages, cinema and literature; international travel; cooking; and spending time with his family.

Stephanie Ashton, Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, joined Saturna Capital in 2012. She graduated from Western Washington University in 2006, majoring in English (Creative Writing emphasis) and minoring in French. Stephanie's professional background includes eight years in various legal support positions, as well as non-profit experience. She is an avid cook, and enjoys literature, film, and fine art.

Brenda Beehler, Investor Services Representative, joined Saturna Capital in March 2016. She holds a BA in Humanities and Social Sciences from Western Washington University in Bellingham. Brenda worked as a newspaper reporter, columnist, and social media manager in Washington and Alaska prior to Saturna. She hikes, camps, forages for wild food, and writes a lifestyle blog about travel and outdoor pursuits in her leisure time.

Ryan Rickerts, Programmer, joined Saturna Capital in February 2007. Originally from North Idaho, Ryan moved to Bellingham in 2000 to attend Western Washington University. He graduated in May 2005 with a combined B.S. degree in Mathematics & Computer Science. Since then, he has worked for small, local companies in a variety of businesses, preparing clear, usable information for web-based presentation. Cultural Attaché and Videographer

Christopher Patton, Cultural Attaché/Videographer, joined Saturna Capital in 2014. Prior to joining Saturna, Christopher was a commercial and creative filmmaker operating in the Pacific Northwest. In 2009, he co-founded Trailer Wars, an ongoing short-form film event in Bellingham that he continues to organize. His work in short-form comedic film subsequently led him to online humor network Cheezburger, Inc., where he served as a writer and producer of video content. In his spare time, Christopher enjoys a bevy of creative activities and is known to be an obsessive moviegoer, music festival attendee, and player of fantasy sports .

Johanna Krouzian, Mail Center Manager, joined Saturna Capital in August 2007. Born and educated in Switzerland, Mrs. Krouzian lived in Lebanon and Cyprus until 1987 when she moved to the United States. She earned a CDA in 1992 and operated her own childcare facility in Los Angeles. Upon moving to Bellingham in 2004, Johanna worked in the childcare industry and attended Bellingham Technical College. Johanna is fluent in English, French, German, and Armenian. She enjoys reading, gardening, and the theater.

Jim Ley, Operations Clerk, joined Saturna Capital in April 2010. Prior to joining Saturna, he served as First Class Petty Officer with VA-52 Squadron at N.A.S. Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, WA. Mr. Ley has also worked in customer service and home repair. His favorite hobbies include flying stunt kites, training and riding horses, playing various musical instruments, reading, and spending time with his wife. Mr. Ley has two children in college.

Thomas Quinn CTFA®,CLU®, REBC

Thomas Quinn joined Saturna Trust Company in March 2015.

He graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Secondary Education English. Mr Quinn has met the requirements for the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers of the American Bankers Association. In addition, he has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter and Registered Employee Benefit Consultant Designations from The American College of Financial Services.

After a career as a high school English teacher, Mr. Quinn entered the financial services business in 1987. In the span of his career, he has filled many roles: benefit consultant, independent financial advisor, and regional vice president for financial firms. He was an agency manager for both New England Financial and Mass Mutual.

In 2005, he joined Wells Fargo to be a Wealth Insurance Specialist for the Wealth Management Group and The Private Bank. In this role, Mr. Quinn partnered with bankers, trust officers, and wealth managers to provide guidance and solutions for estate planning, trust funding, wealth transfer, and business succession.

Mr. Quinn is married with two children. He is an avid tennis player. In addition, he enjoys the performing arts, movies, and smooth jazz.

Reid Kitagawa, Trust Operations Manager, joined Saturna Capital in May 2013. Reid moved to Bellingham in 2006 to attend Western Washington University. In 2010, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing. His interests include fitness, cars, and attending sporting events.

Dennis Murphy PhD
Non-Executive Director, Saturna Capital

Dennis Murphy, PhD, Non-Executive Director, is both Professor and Dean Emeritus of the College of Business and Economics, Western Washington University. He received his PhD in 1974 from Indiana University, and was on the faculty of Indiana University (Bloomington) and of Emory University (Atlanta). He served as Dean of the College of Business and Economics for twenty-four years (retiring in 2007). He also twice served as Provost and Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Western (1998-99 and again from 2007-2009). Dr. Murphy’s teaching and research interests include international trade and finance, commercial banking and corporate governance. Murphy is an experienced practitioner as well as professor, having served as board chair of Everett’s Cascade Bank. A founding member of the Saturna Council of Economic Advisers, he is a frequent speaker on business and economics. He has served the Bellingham community as president of United Way and the Rotary Club, and as a board member of various organizations including St. Paul’s Academy.

Marion R. Foote MBA

Robin Foote is a managing director of Novantas, a New York City based management consulting firm focused on banking.

Previously, Robin was Group Executive Vice President and Head of Relationship Marketing at Bank of America (San Francisco). Before joining Bank of America, Robin worked in senior capacities at First Chicago Retail Bank, where she managed several divisions including those serving affluent Chicagoans, consumer loans, local credit cards, mortgages and housing rehabilitation.

Robin is a broadly experienced bank executive, having led a variety of initiatives to accelerate revenue growth and reduce operating expense, the combination of which contributed more than $1 billion in recurring bottom-line benefits over the course of her banking career.

Robin graduated magna cum laude from Smith College in 1967 and with High Distinction from the Harvard Business School in 1969.

She is an advisory director of privately-held Diacor, Inc. She is a former director of CFSBdirect (now E*Trade) and chaired its Audit and Compensation Committees while it had public ownership. She currently serves on the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation board, and is that organization’s treasurer. Dividing her time between residences in Bellingham WA and San Francisco CA, she is an avid mountain climber and reader who also enjoys music and the arts.

M. Yaqub Mirza PhD
Chairman and Independent Trustee

M. Yaqub Mirza, PhD, returned to the position of the Trust's independent chairman in 2014. He suggested the concept of a US Islamic equity mutual fund in 1984. He is a founding member of the Board of Trustees and served from 1987 through 2003 as an independent Trustee, and as chairman of the Board from 2000 until 2003. He is the CEO of Sterling Management Group, Inc. (Herndon, VA), a consulting, venture capital, securities management, and real estate investment firm. Dr. Mirza has served on the boards of public and private corporations, and has been actively involved with agro-industrial and technology businesses in several countries. He serves as a leader of numerous charities, and lectures on both entrepreneurialism and philanthropy. Dr. Mirza's degrees include a master's of science from the University of Karachi and a doctorate in physics from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Iqbal Unus, PhD, has served on the Amana Mutual Funds Trusts Board of Trustees since 1989. Currently Adviser of the Fairfax Institute (providing educational courses in the Washington, DC area), Dr. Unus has a long management career in Islamic education and service institutions. He is the former Dean of Students/Registrar at the School of Islamic and Social Sciences (Leesburg, VA). Dr. Unus holds two master's degrees in physics and nuclear engineering and a doctorate in nuclear physics from Emory University.

Miles K. Davis PhD

Miles K. Davis, Ph.D., is Dean and George Edward Durell Chair of Management, Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business at Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA). Dr. Davis is active in the microfinance movement, and lectures regularly in the US, Africa, and Europe. An authority on entrepreneurship, his work focuses on the areas of integrity, values, and principles within the business world. Dr. Davis earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Duquesne University, a master's degree in human resource development from Bowie State University, and a doctorate in organizational behavior and management from The George Washington University.

Ronald H. Fielding, MA, MBA, CFA, has worked in the mutual fund industry as a portfolio manager, owner, and senior officer of mutual fund advisers for over 25 years. He has taught courses in finance and economics, and serves on philanthropic and educational institution boards. John E. Love is the Trust's independent chairman, having joined the board in 1987. Mr. Love is president and CEO of the J.E. Love Company which manufacturers and markets specialty agricultural equipment. He is a retired Navy Rear Admiral and a Certified Professional Manager. He has a degree in Economics/ Business Administration from Whitworth University. Mr. Love has served on bank, community, and higher education institution boards.

Gary A. Goldfogel MD
Independent Trustee

Gary A. Goldfogel, MD, serves as the Medical Examiner for Northwest Washington State and is the owner and president of Avocet Environmental Testing Laboratory. Dr. Goldfogel is a board certified physician in Surgical and Forensic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He has served on boards of various professional and community organizations.

Herbert G. Grubel PhD
Independent Trustee

Herbert Grubel, PhD, is a senior fellow of The Fraser Institute and professor emeritus of Economics at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, BC). Dr. Grubel has held appointments and positions with universities, governments, and institutes worldwide. He was a member of Canada's Parliament from 1993 to 1997. Dr. Grubel has published many books and professional articles in economics dealing with international trade and finance and a wide range of economic policy issues.

ERPA® — Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent®
The Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) classification denotes a retirement plan professional who is highly competent in their field and plays an active and critical role in representing employers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on retirement plan matters. The IRS awarded AIRE the contract to administer examinations for the ERPA Program.

ASPPA Designations

The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) is a non-profit professional organization providing education for retirement plan professionals and creating a public policy framework aimed at giving every working American the ability to have a comfortable retirement.

QPA — Qualified Pension Administrator
The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) created the Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) credential to recognize professionals who are qualified to perform the technical and administrative functions of qualified plan administration. QPAs assist employers, actuaries, and consultants in performing functions such as determination of eligibility benefits, computation of benefits, plan recordkeeping, trust accounting and disclosure, and compliance requirements.

The CFA Institute is an investment industry organization whose mission is to lead the investment profession globally by promoting the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society.

CFA® — Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder®
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter is a professional designation established in 1962 and awarded by CFA Institute. To earn the CFA charter, candidates must pass three sequential, six-hour examinations over two to four years. The three levels of the CFA Program test a wide range of investment topics, including ethical and professional standards, fixed-income analysis, alternative and derivative investments, and portfolio management and wealth planning. In addition, CFA charterholders must have at least four years of acceptable professional experience in the investment decision-making process and must commit to abide by, and annually reaffirm, their adherence to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

CIPM® — Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement®
The Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) is a professional designation established and awarded by the CFA institute. Individuals who hold the CMFC® designation have completed a course of study encompassing all aspects of mutual funds and their uses as investment vehicles.
